Experience

My name is Ascanio and I am a private tutor and teacher, operating privately and at the Electronic Music School Berlin. My background is mixed. I would describe myself as a bit of a melting pot: My father is Italian, my mother French. I was born in New York, Grew up in London, studied in Los Angeles and now live in Berlin! My international perspective helps me a lot with teaching, as I have experienced the substantial differences between cultures. This enables me to understand various perspectives, and allows me to change my flexible teaching methodology depending on every student. In Los Angeles, I spent 3 years privately tutoring French - at beginner, intermediate (AP) and university level, teaching a 9 year old, a 14 year old, a 21 year old and a 35 year old. All four attained proficiency. I taught Adam (35 year old) for three years (he had no previous experience) and he eventually moved to France, has a French girlfriend and is now very settled there. My other three students achieved an intermediate understanding of French. The 9 year old who I taught had severe ADHD, but made much progress in two years. He was able to understand French children's TV by the end of my lessons with him. The 14 year old who I taught was merely encouraged by his parents to do so as a useful tool to help him get into universities later on. We made good progress - in a year, he had started to be able to read basic children's literature before I moved away from LA. Finally, the 21 year old who I taught already knew American level university French (I would equate this to about AS Level French in England). I helped him with his studies throughout three quarters of advanced classes, where he achieved good results. My mother is French, and also a writer. As such I have been reading French literature and philosophy since a young age. I attended the French Lycée. A-Levels - A* French, A* English, A* History SAT 2120/2400 Please contact me if you have any questions!

Hobbies

I read about a book a week, and work as a private tutor teaching electronic music production. I have scored two award winning short films and have made music for the Discovery Channel. I have a passionate love for undeground electronic music that goes deep into its academic side. I am currently writing a book based off of my thesis essay I wrote about the intersection between popular and underground electronic music. Besides this I am a lover of art, particularly impressionist and renaissance art in general. My grandfather was a painter, and much of my childhood was spent with him in museums. My family as a whole is very artistic, as my mother is a writer, my aunt a philosopher, my grandmother a poet and my uncle a historian. This has definitely passed down to me, and gives me a unique angle when it comes to teaching French.
