Zara K.

Private tutor in Berlin, Germany

Academic background: -M.Sc Medical Neuroscience jointly awarded by Charite Medical University and Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany - B.Sc (Honors) in Biochemistry from Pakistan - Exchange semester in the US (North Carolina) on a full ride scholarship during which I earned top grades 4.00/4.00

I have taught students from multiple Berlin-based schools (BBIS, BMS, BIS, BBS and NMS). Most of my students were taking the IB (SL and HL) and IGCSE (extended and combined science) exams when they started working with me. I have taught girls and guys, some of which were extremely gifted and others who were struggling or simply needed some motivation and accountability. The top three subjects I have taught the most are biology, chemistry and physics (and sometimes math and english). It has been a particularly rewarding experience working with students of different levels of understanding and diverse ethnicity and nationalities. I have had some wonderful teachers in school and university and am trying to follow their lead when tutoring students. Here is what you can expect when working with me: - a proper study plan - regular accountability in the form of tests and quizzes - learning 'how to learn' and how to retain it better - real life examples of concepts and a study session that is not boring. Seriously, boring lessons in science are a sin - sometimes discussions about current issues, pop culture and applying what you study to your immediate life - a tutor who is friendly and will never make fun of you (or be upset) if you do not understand something. No topic is trivial enough and my emphasis is always on getting the foundations right

I like reading and this is probably one of the best hobby anyone can have to learn to think independently. Not all reading is equal. I learnt this over sometime so I am really selective in what I read to use it for self-development. I mostly gravitate towards non-fiction, biographies, investigative reporting and thrillers. Sometimes I do street photography as well. I love landscapes, street art and historical architecture so this is what is mostly the topic of my pictures. I used to volunteer at soup kitchens before COVID19. Cooking is a great skill to make friends, socialize and also give back to the community. I also blog occasionally but most of the stuff that I write is on personal development, science outreach or when I digress with a commonly held belief (for example, pineapple should not go on pizza)
